The Art of Tailgating

How to Create the Perfect Tailgate

Tailgating is one of the oldest and most traditional ways to view the excitement of a polo match. Here's the inside scoop on how to setup the ultimate tailgate.

Polo Food Tailgate

#1 ARRIVE EARLY

Gates open at 8 AM on match day. Arriving early allows you to set up comfortably. Remember, all vehicles must be moved to the general parking area by noon.

#2 THE BASICS

Comfortable Seating: Bring folding chairs, lawn blankets, and cushions for a cozy atmosphere.

Setup Essentials: Don’t forget folding tables, tablecloths, and pop-up tent that fits within your tailgate space.

Food & Drinks: Bring Your Own (BYO) food and beverage, or buy them at the event! Pack finger foods, light sandwiches, cheese and charcuterie boards, and fresh fruit. Avoid messy or overly complicated dishes. Bring a variety of drinks including sparkling water, lemonade, and iced tea.

Ice: Always pack more ice than you think you’ll need! Whether it’s for chilling drinks or keeping food fresh, extra ice is essential.

Supplies: Include cups, plates, cutlery, serving utensils, napkins, food containers, and a trash bag for clean-up.

#3 SETTING THE SCENE

Decorative Tablecloths: Somehow a tablecloth just makes things seem more festive. Anything can be a tablecloth. Even a horse blanket or a small rug can work.

Height For Visual Appeal: Arrange food and drinks at different heights with decorative trays and stands to create a visually engaging display.

Elegant Serving Pieces: Even if you are using paper plates, serving food with elegant silver and pretty utensils adds a touch of class.

Keep the Bugs at Bay: Use food domes and screens to protect your food from bugs and keep it shaded.

Best Tailgate Contest: Have your tailgate décor ready before the match begins! Judges will be making their decisions during the first half, and the winner will be announced at halftime.

# 4 DRESS CODE

Attire: Smart casual— wear casual yet stylish clothing. Sundresses, polo shirts, and khakis are popular
choices.

Footwear: Comfortable footwear suitable for walking on grass is recommended.

Hats: This year, we will have hat contests! Wear your most creative and stylish hat, with prizes awarded at halftime.

#5 ETIQUETTE

Rules and Regulations: Remember to stay at least 20 feet from the boards.

Dogs: Well-behaved dogs are welcome. Keep them leashed at all times and pick up after them.

Respect for the Field: Trash cans are available near each tailgate space. Please clean up your area thoroughly before leaving.

By implementing these helpful tips, you can create an enjoyable and sophisticated tailgate experience
that complements the elegance and excitement of a polo match.
